AW21 Trend #2: Tight-Knitted

Knitwear is always a go-to when the temperature starts to drop, however for Autumn Winter 2021 it’s quite literally taking centre-stage, featuring on the runways and couture collections of high-fashion brands including Dolce & Gabbana and Chanel. On a deeper level, and in the context of the year that was, it makes sense that designers are re-introducing and re-imagining seasonal wardrobe staples that have given us warmth and comfort since our childhoods. Is there anything that warms the body and soul as reassuringly as donning a thick, woolly jumper on a crisp winter’s morning? We think not.

Statement-making knits, including ribbed turtlenecks in bold colours, preppy cardigans and fitted fine-wool tops in neutral tones are the perfect multi-tasker – keeping you warm on the weekday commute, while raising the bar on your casual comfort. Make a dash for Ally Fashion, Katies, and Valley Girl, to explore their huge range of all-purpose knits in bright, grey-sky-defying primary colours and classic, go-with-everything neutrals of sand, beige and coffee.

To truly nail the runway look on a budget, don’t be afraid to contrast fabrics, textures and fit. Marry an oversized, cable-knit top with a long, straight skirt in earthy leather or heavy cotton, or pair a fitted blazer with wide or oversized pants, like those at Big W or Rivers. Take the look to polished heights with combat boots in black, or just-under-the-knee slouch boots in cream or caramel – Wittner and Williiams have a pair waiting for you to strut in in-store.
