NAIDOC Week Koolangkas Kreate

This July, we are thrilled to have local youth dance group Koolangkas Kreate in Centre to perform a traditional Indigenous Dance that showcases the talent and culture of the First Nations.

Forming in 2014, the group came together with a purpose to encourage young boys to embrace their Noongar culture and to inspire these young men to become future leaders.

With a strong focus on education, cultural pride and reconciliation, Koolangkas Kreate is centred around respect and embracing all cultures and backgrounds.

Originally from Bunbury WA, the boys made the big move to the city in 2018 to pursue the success that they had acquired so far and to take up the wide array of opportunities that were on offer for them. The boys have had much success in Perth, with several boys in the group earning scholarships at elite schools, gaining acting roles with the Black Swan Theatre company and Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company and excelling in sports.

Jacob, a founding member of Koolangkas Kreate, had the opportunity to tour with the Sydney Theatre Company in the UK where he acted with esteemed actors in the play ‘The Secret River’. Here he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Kylie Minogue and got to experience theatre on a global scale.

His twin brother Benjamin has recently finished filming an ABC iView Series called ‘KGB’ which was filmed right here in Perth, in the suburbs of Koondoola, Girrawheen and Balga.  The twins continue to pursue their acting and are making waves in the West Australian Theatre industry.

Join us in Centre this July as we witness the talent of Koolangkas Kreate as they take the floor on Thursday July 8 and Saturday July 10. For event details please see here.
