Sustainability

Lakeside Joondalup and Lend Lease Retail are committed to delivering a sustainable future for all our stakeholders. We recognise the legacy of our activities and we are accountable for what we take, what we create and what we leave behind.

Lakeside Joondalup is continually working to reduce our impact on the local environment and contribute to the local economy and community. We are implementing a number of exciting initiatives as part of our commitment to sustainability. We are currently working on the areas listed below.

Energy Management Plan

We currently have an Energy Management Plan which analyses what we can do to reduce our electricity usage and reduce our impact on the environment. The plan details what measures will give us the most energy savings down to the smaller items. We intend to roll out as many measures over the current year to significantly reduce our consumption. Other measures that are not feasible over the current year will be implemented within the next few years. Reducing our energy consumption is a focus at Lakeside Joondalup.

Arbor Project

Lakeside Joondalup will continue to replant all garden beds with native trees and shrubs that require low irrigation.

Cleaning Products

We take pride in our cleaning performance in the Centre. Where possible, Lakeside Joondalup strives to use environmentally friendly cleaning products.

Lighting System

To cut down on energy use, all lights at Lakeside Joondalup are placed on timers. The Centre’s tent-like structure also provides extensive natural light, cutting down on energy consumption in the Great Space.

PulpMaster Organics Waste Recycling Program

In 2018, Lakeside Joondalup introduced a highly sustainable organics waste recycling system. In many cases, food waste is sent straight to landfill where it decomposes and creates harmful greenhouse gases. The innovative PulpMaster system effortlessly transforms the gas produced into electricity and the food waste into recyclable pulp that is then used to produce organic fertiliser.

Simply Cups Australia

For many, coffee plays a big part in our life. It also plays a big part in the amount of waste we produce, with millions of takeaway coffee cups ending up in landfill each year...until now. We have partnered with Simply Cups, Australia's first coffee cup recycling program, allowing businesses and schools to close the loop on coffee cups.
